Free software for "print screen" (printkey) or screen capture"

Need to grab an image from your computer screen and print it? ... Email it? ... insert it in a document? There are lots of solutions out there for this problem and I think I've tried them all! Which ones do I use and recommend?

My current favorites are PrtScr and PrintKey.

I like PrtScr for its flexiblity when I'm putting together a procedure document to show a client how-to do something on their computer.

I like PrintKey for installing on client PCs for a simple grab and print or Email utility.

I am currently using PrtScr on my office desktop PC. I like it because it works well on overlaid screens, and for layered drop-down menus. This feature makes it great for creating how-to's and procedure douments where I want to show how to step through a process. It also gives me boxed or free-form clipping choices. This adds a little variety to inserted clips.

I have been installing this utility on client PCs for years. It is in my utility file folder on client servers so I can quickly install it for my use or for the desktop users if needed. The clients like it because it's easy for them to clip an error message or screen situation and Email it to me or print it for my review.

Screenpresso - There is a free versionand a Pro version. The free version collects usage statistics and ships them back to the vendor. The nice features here center around editing, after you make the snip. You can annotate, crop, blurr, stitch clips together... all nice features for the artist in you, but complicates the experience for the casual snipper.

Screenpresso is a portable application; it doesn't have to be installed.
