Welcome to Hub-ville

Hub-ville is a vibrant, relatively young community. In its four years of existence, it has shown steady growth in population and a continually developing maturity. I’m sure that the founders had secret dreams of an explosive and viral growth into a megalopolis. What start up commune wouldn’t aspire to community stardom? The current global position of Hub-ville is far from disappointing. The population is growing, the local economy is strong, and the prospects appear to be quite good for the community. It has turned out to be a terrific place to reside.
How I ended up in Hub-ville ...
I first visited Hub-ville four years ago when they were known as beta-Hub-ville. I came over from Squidoo-burg to check it out. I moved in temporarily and published a Hub or two to test the waters, fully expecting to go back to S’burg. I found Hub-ville to be welcoming, but it sure lacked facilities! Some of the modules didn’t work well all the time and the rest rooms were out back. Yet, the founders were so sincere, and the original Hub-gang was so cordial that I just didn’t feel like moving. I stayed around for a year or so, and built up a modest inventory of Hubs. Nothing to write home about, but enough readers came to visit that I was encouraged. Then life threw me a curve, and I left Hub-ville for other pursuits.
I’d occasionally get mail from Hub-ville, and the odd check from Google-opolis. After a couple of years away from Hub-ville, I noticed that the Google-gang kept sending checks! I wasn’t doing anything to encourage them, but every now and then they’d write and send Hub-bucks. I got to thinking that enough visitors must be stopping by my musty old Hub-folio for Google-etal to continue to send checks. Hmmm, if I could get the occasional check for doing nothing, what could happen if I put in a little effort?
So I looked up the old town. I was amazed by the growth and the maturity of the town. I looked in the Hub-dex and found a number of friends from the old days were still living here. Names like Livelonger, Relache, Darkside, and of course, Jimmythejock were still popping up in the Hub-press. What was stimulating was the number of new faces that were hubbing their brains out! I was delighted to read some really good writin’. I decided to move back and get involved again. This return to Hub-mania was originally about the Hub-bucks. It’s too soon to say if effort is rewarded, but I’ve decided to stay and become a productive member of the community again. In short, I’ve got the Hub-bug again!
... about the language and culture ...
English is the official language of Hub-ville. However, the residents here have developed a peculiar set of colloquialisms, where some descriptive words are transformed by the insertion of “hub”. For example, they refer to themselves as hubbers and their work product as HubPages. One of the village scholars has created a Hub-ctionary to ease your way into the local lingo.
The local (online) Library has sections devoted to the HubPages community: spreading hublove, hubtivity, hubmob ...
Many countries and cultures are represented here, from India to Indiana, from Phoenix to Frankfurt, from London Ontario to London England. People from around the world now think of this as their home town. Most residents are part-timers, but some seem to live in Hub-ville 24 x 7!
... local economy aided by trade relationships ...
One of the town planners’ first decisions was to establish a trading partnership with Google-opolis. This relationship has matured beautifully. Google-opolis seems to look kindly on the folks in Hub-ville, valuing their real estate and that has bolstered the local economy and led to the viability that the town founders hoped desired. They also established relations with Ebay-onia. This has worked out well for some, but sadly this relationship is very restrictive and excludes many of Hub-ville’s residents. A similar trade deal with Amazon-ia is less restrictive. Seems like anybody can offer rides on the Amazon-mobile; while there are many lookers, there seem to be too few buyers. Overall the local economy makes more Hub-cents from AdSense.
... finding your way around Hub-ville.
The town council has set up an information booth in the town square. Many people ask the same questions, so there is an FAQ booth that is loaded with Hub-factoids. The community center always has some hubbers hanging around. It’s in the basement of the town hall.
Thinking of moving to Hub-ville?
No commitment is required, in fact a test ride is recommended. Sign up here for a ride on the Hob-trolley.
No pictures of Hub-ville were available at press time, so I thought I'd show you some of Judy's quilts
